Waters Excavations Case Study

Rapidly mobilising their team, Foreman-Sheean complete the entire installation and commissioning of a unique wash plant within a tight deadline.

Project Overview:

Waters Excavations engaged Foreman-Sheean to assemble and commission their new wash plant, which they now use to wash and recycle their by-product waste into five sand aggregates. Minimising their environmental footprint, Waters Excavations are now providing the region with more sand choices, which had previously been in short supply.

Waters Excavations is a leading civil construction service provider, specialising in excavation, demolition, civil contracting and concrete recycling. Based in Mildura and servicing the Sunraysia region, Waters Excavations has over 55 years’ experience in road construction, demolition, drainage, irrigation, sewerage and general earthworks.

The Challenges

Identifying an opportunity to divert industrial waste from landfill and transform it into clean aggregate, Waters Excavations purchased a CDE Waste Recycling Wash Plant in 2020. Upon its arrival in Australia in 2021, Waters Excavations engaged Foreman-Sheean to install the electrical component of the wash plant and provide assistance during commissioning.

Having worked with Foreman-Sheean for many years, Waters Excavations met with the team to discuss their wash plant project. Being a unique endeavour, it was initially challenging for Foreman-Sheean to ascertain the exact scope requirements. However, after receiving plans and civil drawings, Foreman-Sheean were able to capitalise on their 30 years of industry experience to provide an accurate estimate of the works

Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic had caused the shipping of plant equipment to be delayed. Thus, once it arrived in Australia, Foreman-Sheean needed to mobilise to site quickly to ensure they could deliver in a short time frame.

“While the project was delayed due to Covid, Foreman-Sheean ensured they were ready to start as soon as the equipment arrived”, said Waters Excavations Director, Michael Waters.

Scope of Work

Providing a complete installation and commissioning solution, Foreman-Sheean completed the following works:

  • Gained a thorough understanding of documentation and provided a project estimate
  • Wiring of motors and controls on wet plant
  • Installation and terminations to control switchboard
  • Cabling and termination of generator supply used to power wet plant
  • Terminate and commission plant

The Outcome

Dedicated to delivering an exceptional service, Foreman-Sheean worked closely with Waters Excavations to complete the water plant project well within the initial budget and expected timeframe.

This was the first wash plant that Foreman-Sheean had completed from start to finish. While it was a unique project in terms of its operational capacity, Foreman-Sheean seamlessly applied their extensive skill, knowledge and experience to successfully complete the works.

Tapping into their trusted network of skilled tradespeople, Foreman-Sheean were also able to bring in additional resources and work the necessary extended hours, including weekends. This ensured the works were completed to a high standard and within the expected delivery time.

“Foreman-Sheean are fantastic to deal with. The team on site were great and did everything I asked of them, even when it was outside the initial scope. I couldn’t fault them” said Mr Waters
